This olla was pulled straight up out of the raised bed. It still has some of the cucumber roots clinging to its surface. The roots will drink directly from the olla’s wet surface and from the soil around the olla that is damp from the slow release of water into areas of ‘low pressure’. That’s called the osmotic potential. I should have gently dug this one up and allowed all of the roots to remain attached to the olla!
