I poked around the base of the second stock tank this morning in hopes of lifting it off the hackberry tree that is growing inside of it. You can’t see it, but there is 6″ of concrete around the base of the tank and some on the inside where a feeble attempt at patching a leak was made back in the late 70’s or early 80’s.
I gave up on the idea of making it into another raised bed. I think the lands’ need of hackberry trees outweighs my desire for another raised bed. The stock tank did its job of watering cattle and then sheltered a tree! So, I’ll leave it in place and let it continue to nurse the tree by trapping water and snow. Plus it may keep bark eating critters at bay until it toughens up.
