This is a layer of straw and cow manure. I harvested it from where we fed a large round bale to the cows last summer in the drought. Livestock ‘foul their nest’ hence the term ‘mucking out a stall’ so we have the straw plus other ingredients from the cow in this layer. Thus far it’s the most fertile. I bought 20 bags of topsoil at the nursery to put on top to finish the bed. I’ll post those pictures when I plant it on Monday, maybe sooner if it doesn’t rain tomorrow!
